Jet Airways' JetPrivilege, has entered into a partnership with TripAdvisor.&nbsp; According to the partnership, JetPrivilege members can post hotel reviews on the TripAdvisor India website, www.tripadvisor.in, and earn JPMiles from now until the end of 2010.<br><br>This partnership gives JetPrivilege members an opportunity to earn up to 1000 base JPMiles per quarter. To earn these JPMiles, a member has to visit www.tripadvisor.in, write his/her hotel reviews and enter his/her JetPrivilege number at the time of submission. Union Tourism Minister lays foundation stone for heliport at Chemchey, South Sikkim

According to a PIB release, Kumari Selja, Union Minister for Tourism recently laid the foundation stone for the heliport at Chemchey, South District, Sikkim. This is first in the three heliport projects sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) for construction of heliports. The other two are Geetang Khola in the West and Mangan in the North District. <br><br>The projects have been sanctioned with a view to promote tourist destinations in hilly, remote and inaccessible areas of the country. Speaking on the occasion, Selja said that for the first time in the country the state of Sikkim has been granted Central Financial Assistance for Heliport to develop three new destination projects. She praised the efforts of the state government for taking lead towards promotion of Adventure, Eco and Wellness Tourism in the country. <br><br>Selja also inaugurated the Himalayan Adventure and Eco Tourism Centre at Chemchey. At the inauguration she said, Adventure Tourism, Ecotourism and Wellness Tourism are the three niche segments of India's tourism products and MoT attaches importance towards development and promotion of these segments.

According to a PTI report, Air India has announced that it is likely to get a new Chief Operating Office (COO) by end of January next year. Arvind Jadhav, CMD, Air India said, “It is in the process. I think we will be calling a meeting shortly, hopefully by end of January next year a new COO will be appointed.” National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) is the holding company formed after the merger of Air India and erstwhile Indian Airlines. &nbsp;<br><br>Air India had embarked on a time─bound operational and financial turnaround plan, which envisages pruning costs, increasing yields and making profits. This appointment is part of the airline's initiative to bounce back. The COO will be in charge of the airline's day─to─day affairs and work under the NACIL Chairman and Managing Director.&nbsp; Jadhav said that he will be appointed on a contract, initially for a period of three years which can be extended further by two years. <br><br>On a question on cost saving measures, he added that the airline needs to save Rs 3,000 crore and the various cost cutting steps initiated so far had yielded good results.

European travel industry less optimistic in wake of massive losses: ITB World Travel Trends Report

The European travel industry experienced losses with eight per cent less arrivals, in the first eight months of this year. According to the ITB World Travel Trends Report, commissioned by the world's leading travel trade show and compiled by the consultancy IPK International, during this period the number of outbound trips undertaken by Europeans went down by seven per cent, who also spent 15 per cent less on their travels.<br><br>Long─haul travel fell by 12 per cent, short─haul trips by only six per cent. Europeans were also less willing to make a firm decision regarding their travel intentions in 2010 than they were a year ago. MoT releases Rs 16 cr for upgradation of tourism projects in Chandigarh

Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India, has released the highest ever Central aid of Rs 16 crore for new projects in Chandigarh. This was informed by Ram Niwas, Home Secretary, Chandigarh during a meeting with top officials recently.<br><br>According to a report in The Times of India, Niwas said the move will enable upgradation of the city's main attractions, including Sukhna Lake, Rose Garden, eco tourism park─cum─botanical garden, Patiali─Ki─Rao and developing new gardens in the southern sectors. Earlier, the government had sanctioned a Central assistance of Rs 11.5 crore to promote tourism infrastructure.<br><br>According to information, the administration had received Rs 4.51 crore for development of garden of palms and children adventure park near the lake in sector─42, besides Valley of Animals and Sunken Garden in sector 50. Sources said Sukhna Lake will also get a face─lift wherein the seating area and flooring will be replaced with pavit tiles and red stone.<br><br>Work at the lake will start from the entrance, near The Chandigarh Industrial Tourism corporation (CITCO's) cafeteria and progress towards the bandstand on the lake promenade.

Preference for online flight booking and check─in higher among Mumbai passengers: Survey

The fourth annual SITA/Air Transport World Passenger Self─Service Survey (PSS) found that the preference for online booking was higher (77.9 per cent) among Mumbai passengers than at any of the six international gateways. The actual usage rate was 65.9 per cent among those interviewed, which is above the global average of 63.7 per cent and an increase from 61.7 per cent recorded at Mumbai during last year's survey. <br><br>Mumbai also stands out because of the popularity of web check─in, which was used by 25.6 per cent of passengers – a rate which was only exceeded by Atlanta, the world's busiest airport, where the rate was 32.2 per cent.
