| Union Tourism Minister informs Lok Sabha on Institutes of Hotel Management Posted: According to a PIB release, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha recently Kumari Selja, Union Minister for Tourism informed that there are 21 Central Institutes of Hotel Management and eight State Institute of Hotel Management functional in the country. With the initiative of each state government, proposal for establishment of a State Institute of Hotel Management is examined by the Ministry of Tourism (MoT). The State Institute of Hotel Management is sanctioned after the state government makes available the land and accepts the standard terms and conditions of the scheme. | IHCL to soon launch Vivanta by Taj – Srinagar, Kashmir Posted: The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced its foray into Srinagar, in Jammu and Kashmir. A management contract for a hotel under the upper upscale brand Vivanta by Taj was signed with SAIFCO Hill Crest Hotels Pvt. Ltd. recently in Srinagar.<br><br>Vivanta by Taj – Srinagar, Kashmir will have 89 rooms during its launch; with suites and guest rooms spread out in villas. The services will consist of an all─day dining restaurant, a tea lounge, a bar and a specialty restaurant. | Civil Aviation Minister informs Lok Sabha on provisions for new Ground Handling Policy at airports Posted: According to a PIB release, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel recently informed the Lok Sabha that airline operators had expressed their concerns about the new Ground Handling Policy. He said that the matter was examined by the Indian government, and it was decided that the exit of non─entitled entities including domestic airlines will be implemented only after undertaking a comprehensive review and with inter─ministerial consultation. <br><br>Regarding the new Ground Handling Policy, Patel said that for the metropolitan airports i.e. Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, following provision were made: ─ <br><ul><li>The respective airport operator itself or its joint venture partner. </li><li>Air India and its subsidiaries/joint venture companies specialised in ground handling services. Third party handling will also be permitted to these subsidiaries. </li><li>Any other ground handling service providers selected through competitive bidding process by the airport operator.</li></ul> |

| PATA forecasts five per cent drop in Asia Pacific visitor arrivals in 2009 Posted: According to a report in asiatraveltips.com, figures released recently by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) show that the numbers of international visitors to the Asia Pacific region grew by 0.7 per cent year─on─year in September 2009. Growth in arrivals for the region is still down by five per cent year─on─year for the first nine months of 2009.<br><br>Two sub─regions recorded positive growth for the month. International visitor arrivals to Southeast Asia grew by 14 per cent while arrivals to the Pacific were up nine per cent. The strong 25 per cent growth in arrivals to Malaysia and the rebound in arrivals to Thailand (from a low base in September 2008) boosted overall arrivals growth into Southeast Asia. Arrivals to most destinations in the Pacific also increased compared to September 2008.
