According to a report from etravelblackboard.com, Air France will begin operating a new service between Paris and Abu Dhabi, effective May 3, 2010. Flights will be operated by an A330 seating 219, with 40 seats in Business and 179 in Voyageur (Economy). Air France will also eventually introduce the new Premium Voyageur cabin on flights to this destination. As from May 3, 2010, Air France will thus be serving seven destinations in the Middle East ─ Abu Dhabi, Amman, Beirut, Damascus, Dubai, Jeddah and Riyadh.<br><br>Flight times are particularly well adapted to ensure fast connections out of Paris─Charles de Gaulle Airport from and to other cities worldwide. The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has welcomed and fully supported the 'Live the Deal' climate change initiative announced recently by Professor Geoffrey Lipman on behalf of greenearth.travel ─ a policy think tank for 'innovation and investment in smart, sustainable travel and tourism mobility and new climate profiles'. <br>&nbsp;<br>The think tank also seeks to support new climate targets and actions by tracking and reporting sector progress; encourage fair and balanced market, regulatory and financing approaches; identify investment and innovation to help reduce carbon impacts and climate profiles; and to promote policy dialogue and change management in support of the transition. Valmiki Tiger Reserve sends proposal to Bihar govt for undertaking works to promote Ecotourism

While the famed Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand earns an estimated Rs 350 crore annually through promotion of Ecotourism which attracts a large number of tourists to the area, officials of Valmiki Tiger Reserve in Bihar's West Champaran district have now sent proposals to the Bihar government for undertaking works which would help in promoting Ecotourism in the reserve. <br><br>Among the proposals include improving the condition of forest roads falling under Division─II of the Tiger Reserve. According to a report in Times of India, J P Gupta, Director, Valmiki Tiger Reserve said, “We have sent Rs 30 lakh proposal to the state government for undertaking this work. A similar proposal to improve the condition of roads in Division─I of the reserve will also be sent to the Bihar government soon.”<br><br>Pointing out that good roads are a must in order to attract tourists to the tiger reserve, Gupta mentioned that the present condition of forest roads in the reserve has proved to be major deterrent for attracting tourists.

MoT plans to limit tourists and hotels operating near reserves, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries

Tiger reserves, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries will soon become zones with restricted entry as the Indian government plans to impose stringent regulations on tourism activities in these areas. According to a report in DNA, concerned at the diminishing number of tigers and destruction of forest reserves due to increased commercial activities, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) is planning to limit the number of tourists and hotels operating in and around reserves, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. This means tourists will need to queue up in advance for entry permits or pay more for a jeep.<br><br>India has 38 tiger reserves, 357 wildlife sanctuaries and 96 national parks. Roughly 700─1,000 tourists visit these every day. About 30 diesel─run jeeps and 15 canters also enter each reserve daily. Environmentalists believe increased tourism activities are affecting the ecological balance of these parks and reserves.<br>To regulate this, MoT plans to reduce the number of permits for parks and reserves by about 30─40 per cent. It is also contemplating a temporary ban of three─four years, on all tourism─related projects in these areas.

Alitalia and Etihad Airways sign MoU for code share services

According to a report in asiatraveltips.com, Alitalia and Etihad Airways have exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that confirms the airlines' intention to operate a code share agreement from the start of the Northern Summer season in April 2010, subject to government approvals. <br><br>Due to the agreement Etihad Airways customers around the world will be able to fly to two new Italian destinations, Rome and Naples. Alitalia customers will be able to fly directly from Italy to Abu Dhabi and will have better and easier access to the airline's expanding network of more than 55 destinations. <br><br>Under the proposed deal, Etihad Airways will place its two─letter 'EY' code on a number of services operated by Alitalia from Milan to Rome and Naples, and between selected European destinations and Rome, including Frankfurt, Geneva and Munich. In turn, Alitalia will place its 'AZ' code on Etihad Airways flights between Milan and the airline's Abu Dhabi home base, and onto Bahrain, Muscat, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Bangkok, Sydney and Melbourne. Etihad Airways currently operates five direct services to Milan (Malpensa) per week.

According to a PTI report, chairing a meeting of the Katra Development Authority (KDA) in Jammu recently, Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir highlighted the potential of Pilgrim Tourism in the state. Abdullah said, “About 80 lakh devotees' yearly visit Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine alone. If we are able to attract only ten per cent of this pilgrim influx to other places in Jammu and Kashmir it will give considerable boost to tourism sector. Abdullah, who is also Chairman of KDA, said the development of Katra, the base camp to the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi, should be designed according to futuristic needs of the town.
