Greetings Laff Lovers,

I read an interesting article the other day which listed
seven symptoms a person will display if he or she is not
getting enough sex.

Unlike food, water and sleep, sex isn't a biological
necessity, but it's still pretty important. And if you
haven't gotten any in a while, it can have some seriously
negative effects on your mind and body.

Such as:

–Excessive nervousness

–Migraine headaches and long periods of unjustified anxiety

–Permanent stress

–Lack of appetite

–Insomnia

–Contradictory feelings about certain people

–And frequent sexual fantasies, especially at night

Now, I don't know who wrote this, but I have almost all
of these symptoms constantly (except maybe for lack of
appetite), and I get laid regularly. So either this guy
is a complete quack, or I am some sort of insatiable,
sexual freak.

Freakily,

TZ

    ======================= NEWS AND COMMENT ======================

"U.S. Traffic To Twitter Down... But Does It Matter?"
    -----------------------------------------------------

According to data provided to eMarketer by Nielsen, traffic to
Twitter.com was down a dramatic 27.8 percent between September
and October 2009, falling to 18.9 million unique visitors. The
decline is echoed by comScore data that unique visitors were
down 8.1 percent in October, and Compete data that uniques were
    down 2.1 percent.

But how meaningful are these declines? Sure traffic to the
Twitter.com website is down month over month, after sensational
growth at the start of the year, but they don't necessarily
reflect lower interest in Twitter itself. The declines could, in
fact, reflect migration of more and more people to Twitter
clients i.e. third party applications and mobile devices used by
people to access and interact with Twitter.

As reported by eMarketer, Crowd Science data from August 2009
showed that 43 percent of Twitter users accessed the service
through third-party applications, and 19 percent through SMS.
Meanwhile, RJ Metrics reported a drop in share of tweets via the
Twitter website versus other sources between June and July 2009,
and TweetStats found that around 30 percent of daily tweets came
    from Twitter.com in mid-November 2009.

For all these reasons, a decline in traffic to Twitter.com is
not necessarily material or reflective of a reduction in its use.

"TV and Online Video Viewers Have Similar Viewing Habits"
    ---------------------------------------------------------

A new Knowledge Networks report reveals that, when it comes to
discovering and selecting video content to watch either online
or on television, verbal word of mouth (in-person conversations
or phone calls) plays a much bigger role than social media,
whilst TV ads and search engines are also significant tools for
    discovery and decision-making.

The report, How People Use® Video Navigation - based on a study
of 601 Knowledge Networks panel members - shows that television
ads are the most important source for discovering new programs
and deciding what to watch on TV, with verbal word of mouth
coming in second for discovery and third for decision making.

Verbal word of mouth was, however, the top source for learning
about and deciding to watch online videos, with search engines
the second most- cited way of learning about online video.

Another similarity between people who watch TV and those who
watch streaming video is that they tend to watch with specific
    programs or content in mind.

Among TV viewers, 44 percent switch on their TV to watch a
specific program, while 56 percent of streaming video viewers
specifically choose to watch full-length TV episodes or movies.
Only 22 percent of viewers watch online streaming video to view
    non-professional or amateur content.

    ======================= FEATURE ARTICLE =======================

"White Hat Link Building According to Bing"
    -------------------------------------------

Bing's Rick DeJarnette recently posted a great article advising
Internet marketers and search engine optimizers on link building
from Bing's perspective. Actually, the principles are probably
universal to Google and other search engines, and provide a neat
guide to 'white hat link building'.

Essentially, Bing's policy on link building is that it is less
concerned about the techniques used to create links than the
intention behind those techniques. Having said that, DeJarnette
also acknowledges that the choice of techniques can indicate the
underlying intentions, which in turn can affect a website's
    ranking in Bing.

Specifically, DeJarnette says that SEO techniques oriented
towards helping users will help a site rank higher than
techniques aimed at influencing the search engine crawlers. What
techniques help users? Those related to creating content:
    "Content. Good, original, text-based content."

Echoing what Google search engine reps such as Matt Cutts have
said on numerous occasions, DeJarnette says that:

"Providing high-quality content on your pages is the single most
important thing you can do to attract inbound links. If your
content is unique and useful to people, your site will naturally
attract visitors and, as a result, automatically get good links
to your site. By focusing on great content, over time, your site
will naturally acquire those coveted inbound links."

Meanwhile, DeJarnette also indicates that Bing, like Google,
distinguishes between links based on the relevance and authority
    of their source.

Firstly, the site providing the link must be topically relevant
to your site. Bing evaluates such relevance based on crawling
the content of the sites linking to your site, as well the
content of your site. If there's a "clear disconnect, the value
of that inbound link is significantly diminished, if not
    completely disregarded."

Secondly, the most valuable links will come from the most
authoritative sites in your industry or area. DeJarnette defines
authoritative sites as those which "possess great content, that
have a history in their space, that have earned tons of
    relevant, inbound links."

Helpfully, you can use the Bing Webmaster Center Backlinks tool
to see who is linking to your site and how authoritative Bing
    considers each site to be.

As you might expect, Bing is on the outlook for techniques aimed
at search engine manipulation. When Bing detects probable
manipulation, it assigns a spam rank factor to the site,
depending upon the type and severity of the infraction.

A high spam rating can lead Bing to penalize the site with a
lowered rank. Serious and persistent attempts to manipulate the
ranking of a site can lead Bing to temporarily or permanently
purge the site from its index.

Some examples of unnatural activity noted by DeJarnette include
    where:

-- The number of inbound links increases dramatically in a short
    amount of time.

-- A lot of inbound links come from irrelevant blog comments
    and/or websites.

-- There are hidden links on your webpages.

-- Inbound links come from paid link farms, link exchanges, or
    known 'bad neighborhoods'.

-- The site links out to known 'web spam' sites.

So that's the kind of thing to avoid doing... but what should
you be doing to accelerate your white hat link building efforts?

See today's Kikabink Lab article for 10 Link Building Tips from
    Bing...

"10 Link Building Tips From Bing"
    ---------------------------------

Rick DeJarnette of the Bing Webmaster Center recently wrote a
great article detailing Bing's approach to link building. As
part of the article, Rick listed 10 link building tips to help
Internet marketers and webmasters maximize their chances of
generating lots of high quality inbound links... and thereby
    improve their search engine rankings.

On that basis, here are 10 link building tips from Bing:

    1. Build your website with a business brand and consistently
apply that branding to your content.

    2. Identify and contact industry experts, product reviewers,
bloggers and the media about your website and content.

    3. Write and distribute press releases about newsworthy
    developments regarding your business.

    4. Write and post articles to online article directories which
    establish your expertise.

    5. Comment/post on relevant blogs and discussion boards,
including links back to your site. Note that even where
links in blog comments are not counted as backlinks by the
search engines (i.e. because they are tagged with the 'no
follow' attribute) you still have the chance to get inbound
links from readers who like your content.

    6. Participate on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook,
and LinkedIn to connect with those in your industry.

    7. Publish an online newsletter on your site where subscribers
receive notification emails whenever you release a new issue.

    8. Implement a blog or discussion board on your site to
    facilitate both content and interaction.

    9. Join relevant industry associations and participate in their
    online discussion forums.

    10. Aim to become a trusted authority in your industry and
promote your website as a source of great information.
