The agreement was recently signed in Guilin at the UNWTO/PATA Forum on 'Tourism Trends and Outlook'. Signatories to the agreement include: Greg Duffell, CEO, PATA; Taleb Rifai, Secretary─General Ad Interim, UNWTO; Li Zhigang, Mayor, Guilin and Kaye Chon, Director, Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU). <br><br>As per the agreement the Forum will 'provide an opportunity for policymakers, senior officials, researchers and industry representatives to take stock of the global and regional trends in tourism and the broader environment impacting upon tourism'.<br> <br>The proposed structure of this permanent Forum in Guilin is a two─day conference and a technical tour. Themes will vary annually and will be decided jointly by the four organisations. PATA and UNWTO will continue to be joint organisers of the Forum, working closely with the HKPU on all technical matters relating to each event. | Travel cost per Haj pilgrim increases this year: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel Posted: According to a PIB release, informing the Rajya Sabha yesterday Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said that the number of pilgrims for Haj 2009 will be around 1, 21,500. The cost of travel per pilgrim for airlines has increased considerably mainly due to increase in input costs, increase in embarkation points etc. However, the amount charged per pilgrim as travel cost had remained static since 1994. <br><br>Patel also mentioned that the fare being charged per pilgrim for Haj 2009 is Rs 16,000. The total cost of Haj operations for the carriage of pilgrims this year is expected to be Rs 67,000 per pilgrim, out of which Rs 51,000 will be borne by the Indian government as subsidy. The following facilities are provided to the Haj pilgrims by Air India: Free baggage allowance of 45 kgs per pilgrim; Provision of ten litres of zam zam water free of charge to each pilgrim and carriage of same; Box meal is provided to the pilgrims on departure from India and arrival into Saudi Arabia; All other facilities as provided to the international passengers. | MoT to pay up to two per cent fee of architects for tourism projects Posted: According to a PTI report, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) organised a Workshop on World Class Tourism Infrastructure on August 19, 2009 under the chairmanship of Kumari Selja, Union Minister for Tourism. Leading architects, representatives of State Governments/State Tourism Corporations and other stakeholders attended the workshop.<br><br>One of the key recommendations of the workshop was that MoT may also pay the architect's fee over and above the cost of the project under the scheme of Product/Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits. This will encourage the State Governments/U.T. Administrations to engage the architects for preparation of design and supervising the implementation of tourism projects to world class standards. <br><br>MoT accepted this recommendation and issued orders to meet expenditure on the architect's fee up to two per cent of the project cost. However, ceiling for Central Financial Assistance will continue to remain as Rs five crore and Rs eight crore for destinations and circuits respectively. ADTOI will be organising its convention in New Delhi for the fourth consecutive year. The Association is likely to decide the theme, relevant topics for the business sessions within this week. ADTOI will also organise an exhibition during the convention displaying new and traditional array of domestic tourism products to B2B customers from across India. Narasimha Jayakumar, Business Head, Google India said that the three─month campaign started last week and the responses had been 'tremendous'. <br><br>Jayakumar mentioned that now, if somebody sitting in Britain, US, Canada or India does a Google search on something related to tourism, Kerala Tourism's website link will appear on the right side of the page along with the search results. A click on that (link) will lead the person to receive all information on Kerala Tourism. He, however, declined to reveal the cost of the campaign, which started at a 'right time' as the state's tourist season has begun. “The beauty of our service is that Kerala Tourism will get ready information on responses at real time.
