According to a report in etravelblackboardasia.com, AirAsia has launched two new routes from Jakarta and Medan in Indonesia to Phuket in Thailand. The airline is offering special promotional online fares to celebrate the launch of the new routes. The new routes will be in an addition to AirAsia's existing Jakarta─Bangkok and Bali─Bangkok routes and will operate from its new hub at Phuket International Airport in Thailand. AirAsia said that the routes will further strengthen its aggressive expansion plans in being an ASEAN airline. <br><br>The special fares start from THB 1,499 one─way for Jakarta─Phuket and THB 999 one─way for Medan─Phuket, available for booking until November 9, 2009 for travel from December 3, 2009─ April 30, 2010. <br><br>H.E. According to a PTI report, the Government of India (GoI) said that there is no proposal as of now to allow foreign airlines to invest in Indian carriers. GoI has been of the opinion that allowing foreign carriers to invest in their Indian counterparts, when they are growing, will not be in the interest of the local aviation industry. <br><br>Anand Sharma, Minister, Commerce and Industry said that he would comment on the issue on when a proposal was presented before the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the nodal agency which deals with FDI proposals. "If there is any proposal it will come to DIPP. We will take a view when it is presented before us and the decision will be that of the cabinet," added Sharma.

According to a PTI report, celebrating its 50th year of operations in the country, German carrier Lufthansa has announced special return fares for Indian travellers to Europe and America. The airline is offering return tickets to any destination in Europe for Rs 26,000 and in America for Rs 42,600. The bookings for these special fares are open till tomorrow. <br><br>The German carrier started its operations in India from November 1, 1959 when its first scheduled flight from Frankfurt landed at Kolkata after a 30─hour long journey. Axel Hilgers, Director South Asia, Lufthansa said, "Five decades of involvement with the growth of India's aviation sector provided an excellent base for Lufthansa's success into the future. Our leading position in India proves that we offer the right product at competitive prices." The airline has planned to re─introduce 'Fly─Net', a wireless Internet service, on its long haul flights for India travellers from next year.
