a utility that can solve a person's problem, people
will definitely visit your web site.

2. Offer a free affiliate/reseller program. When you
offer people a free opportunity to make money they
will line up to visit your web site.

3. Supply news stories related to your site. People
want current news on the topics they are interested
in. You could also include new "how to" articles.

4. Offer your visitors a free community. People like
to have a place were they can have discussions with

5. Make people feel safe when they order. Explain
to them you won't sell their e-mail address and all
their personal information will be kept confidential.

6. Offer free samples or trials of your product. This
will let people experience your product and attract
people to your web site.

7. Make your ad copy attractive. Your ad should
lists benefits before the features. Include guarantees
and testimonials in your ad.

8. Remind people to come back and visit your site.

history. They'll feel more comfortable if they know
who they are buying from.

10. Give people as many ordering options. Accept
credit cards, checks, money orders, and other forms
of electronic payments.

Open To New Cash Ideas

Posted: 14 Nov 2009 09:46 AM PST

FACT:

"There were 565.7 million Internet users worldwide at the
end of 2008, and there will be 633.6 million at the end of
2007. This amounts to 67.9 million per year, or 5.66 million
per month (in 2008).

That's 189,000 per day, 7,875 per hour, 131.25 per minute,
or 2.2 new Internet users every second of the day worldwide,
translating to a new Internet user going on-line every .45
seconds this year." - eMarketer. March 2008

FACT:
"On-line Shopping is exploding NOW! 2004 Market Projections
say E-Commerce will produce 7 Trillion." - Forrester
Research, March 2008

FACT:
"In the Internet age, the GREATEST risk is being left
behind." - Newsweek, December, 2008

Hi Welcome,

The statistics above are pretty amazing, don't you agree?

The facts are pretty clear: The Internet is where fortunes
are being made. And we're only at the beginning. In fact,
it's rumored that currently 50 cents of every US dollar in
America is spent on-line. Amazing!

For someone wanting to change his or her lifestyle, the
Internet is the smartest form of leverage available.

And that's why I'm contacting you.

Your name was referred to me as someone who at one time was
open to good business ideas. If this is still the case, I
would love for you to review a very unique Internet company
(no, not one of those famous "dot-bombs"!).

Completely Internet-based, this company gives people the
opportunity to work from anywhere in the world - literally!
In fact, I have team members in almost all the countries of the
world.

But before I show you it.

Let me ask you a simple question: What if you could get paid
every time someone visited your website?

What if you had a website that did all of the hard work for
you, all of the presentation? And your only job was getting
people there to see something that is currently a billion
dollar industry? And what if that website was given to you
for free when you joined the team?

Would that excite you?

If so, you're the kind of person I'm looking for.

But rather than try to explain everything myself, I'll let
our system do the work.

Simply load up your Internet browser right now and visit my
company website: http://getresponse.com/click.html?x=a62b&lc=iZGJ&mc=m&s=hXFNf&y=0&

Watch the presentation. Read about the opportunity. Listen
to the stories.

If the website doesn't get you fired up, then nothing I can
say or do will.

(By the way, that's the exact same website you'll get to
"own". In fact, it does all of the hard work for you. 24
hours a day. 7 days a week.)

After watching the presentation, I'll tell
you exactly how we'll get you started and earning your first
check within 30 days!

Our team has an entire "blueprint" for success laid out - so
I look forward to hearing from you and sharing it!

you fit that criteria, please let me know right away before
someone else snatches your spot. You'll be glad you did!

[Plesset's Principles]Try Before You Buy

Posted: 13 Nov 2009 06:44 PM PST

If you would prefer to read this newsletter as a web page, I've posted it here.

11-09-09
This document uses images and html
TIP OF THE WEEK:  Allow yourself sufficient time to make good decisions about every aspect of your project. Don't be trapped by artificial deadlines you impose, or that someone else tries to impose on you.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK:

"Be faithful to your own taste because nothing you really like is ever out of style."  (Billy Baldwin)

"A study of economics usually reveals that the best time to buy anything is last year."   (Marty Allen)

"When you buy (anything), use your eyes and your mind, not your ears."
          (Czechoslovakian Proverb)

"Quality is always essential, whatever the price."  (Billy Baldwin)

IN THIS ISSUE:

Try It Before You Buy It

Marketing Yourself and Your Services

Dear Welcome

I'm constantly being reminded about the importance of buying the right products, and making informed decisions, so this week's newsletter will provide hints and tips for how to buy wisely, to save you effort, time, and money. You may have read one or two of the tips in previous newsletters (or my book), but they bear repeating, because they're very important.

You are probably gearing up for the Holiday Season, which begins in a couple of weeks with Thanksgiving.  I'm going to be writing a series of newsletters focusing on Holiday decorations and safety tips, to help you enjoy this special time of the year, and also preparing a newsletter with hints about what to do after you take down your Holiday decorations.  Your home doesn't have to look and feel drab in the two or three months between New Year's Day and the beginning of Spring!

The next six weeks are going to be very busy, and challenging.  A positive attitude, focusing on what's really important, and surrounding ourselves with family and close friends will help us get through all of the seasonal have-to's, and anything else that pops up.  Enjoy life, despite the challenges!

TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT

"A budget tells us what we can't afford, but it doesn't keep us from buying it.  (William Feather)

Do you remember when you bought your last car?  You went through the process of defining what you wanted, and exploring what was available in your price range. Then you went to showrooms, to get more information, and test drive each vehicle to find the one that fit, emotionally, physically and financially.  Preparing for a building or remodeling project is very similar, but most of my previous clients haven't understood the concept, until I shared an analogy, and asked them to tell me what they did to make their final decision about purchasing a car.

What did you pay for your newest vehicle?  If you're remodeling your master bathroom or your kitchen, you can expect to invest 100% - 200% what you paid for your car. I've never understood why homeowners are willing to pay more for a vehicle that will depreciate so much, so quickly.  In today's economy, even with  a drastic drop in value, you can't deny that your home is your best investment.

Back to the analogy of purchasing an automobile.  Your first step is to make a comprehensive list of everything you want included, and prioritize your list. This is important, because it will help you talk with design professionals and contractors, to help them understand your goals.  The first chapter of my award-winning book, "THE Survival Guide: Home Remodeling" has multiple surveys that will help you define priorities about the scope of your project, and specific products you may want to include. The complete set is available for only $9.95 (see below how to order the surveys).

The next step is to establish a reasonable, realistic investment range.  Yes, investment -- not price.  You're investing in your home, and your future.  A good remodeling (or building) project will give you years of personal enjoyment, and a high rate of return on your investment if and when you decide to sell your home. Statistics verify that you will get a 45% - 85% return, depending on the size and scope of your project, and your physical location.

After you determine your target budget, test reality by talking to design professionals and contractors, to get their opinion about your project based on their professional experience.  This is similar to visiting showrooms or doing online research, to learn about what you'll get for what you're willing to pay for a vehicle.  There are direct parallels, because the "bottom line" determines how much of your wish list you're going to achieve, i.e., the more you pay, the more you'll get.

Now, there is a break in the analogy.  When you go to a car dealer, their goal is to sell you a vehicle that day.  Design professionals and contractors want to sell you their services, but you should not feel pressured by them. Allow yourself enough time to make an informed decision:  Interview them, review their proposal, check their references, and ask questions.

It's impossible to "test drive" a new home, or a remodeled home.  But there are some things that you can do during the design process to help you achieve the best results:

  • Verify dimensions for aisleways and passageways, to confirm enough space has been allowed for comfort and safety, especially:
    • Door swings (including shower doors, and appliances)
    • Traffic around tables and islands, between countertops and appliances
    • Usable kitchen countertop area
    • Convenient storage
    • Multiple users in the same space
  • Carefully select products that fit your needs, and your budget
    • Pre-shop online at manufacturers' sites for features
    • Visit showrooms to physically see and feel the products (a client recently selected a different handshower, because the original handshower she selected online didn't fit her grip comfortably)
    • Obtain comparative prices
    • Enter information into a spreadsheet (manufacturer, model number, price, and showroom/salesperson)
Pride of ownership lasts a very short time after you've purchased a new vehicle.  The satisfaction and joy you feel in your new or remodeled home is daily, and will last for many years into the future.  My goal is to help you achieve your goals, through these newsletters, my book, and my design/coordination services.

It's easy to obtain a copy of the complete Homeowner Surveys! Just send a request to orders@dp-design.com, and we'll send an order confirmation by return e-mail, with a PayPal invoice for $9.95, asking your preference for pdf or hard copy.   After you've paid the invoice, we'll confirm the shipment of your order.

Are you planning to build a new home, or remodel your existing home?  Do you know someone who is planning to build a new home or remodel their existing home in 2010?  "THE Survival Guide: Home Remodeling" is the perfect Holiday gift!  Price, including regular postage, is only $29.95.  Order (and register) now, and receive the two new chapters about green building and remodeling, and aging-in-place guidelines, at no extra charge!  My personal guarantee comes with every book:  If guidelines and hints are followed, readers can save at least 10 times the price of the book! PLESSET'S PRINCIPLES FOR TOMORROW'S DESIGNERS

MARKETING YOURSELF: COMPETITIONS

"You don't sell a commodity, you sell joy, gaiety, excitement. You aim at people's hearts, not their minds."  (Dorothy Draper, Detroit News)

One of the best ways to build a professional reputation and entice new clients is to enter design competitions.  Your school may host student competitions, and they may offer information about design competitions sponsored by magazines, manufacturers, and organizations that have student categories.

Your school may offer a graduation celebration, honoring the top students. Pay attention to this, because it could be a great boost to your career.  I speak from personal experience because I was honored with the "Henry Adams (Student) Designer Of The Year" when I graduated.  I was fortunate to have gotten two years of practical experience at a local bath-kitchen remodeling company while attending classes, and had already established D. P. Design.  The award presented an opportunity to send out press releases, which helped my business tremendously.  I had 15 years of repeat and referral clients as a result of the positive "press" I got from the award!

Since moving back to Oregon nine years ago, I have won 11 regional and national design competitions, in addition to the 2003 award for "Best How-To Book".  They are a source of pride and confidence, because they represent not only client satisfaction, but peer acknowledgement of my creative talents.

Here are some hints and tips that will help you build your successful career:
  • Do the very best you can with every class assignment and internship; continually ask yourself, "How can I improve this?"
"The healthiest competition occurs when average people win by putting above average effort."  (Colin Powell)
  • Subscribe to trade magazines that fit your design goals; subscriptions are usually free, especially if they offer online magazines
  • Use search engines for information about competitions
  • Join professional organizations; they often reduce membership fees for students, and often sponsor design competitions
  • Network online; limit friends' (and competitors') ability to post potentially embarrasing remarks or photos
  • Learn as much as possible about marketing
Finally, always compete with yourself, never others.  I've known both types of competitors, and prefer to associate with people who consistently raise the bar of professionalism with integrity.  Anna Brownell Jameson says it best, "The only competition worthy of a wise man is with himself."

"The only difference between the women I've dated and Charles
Manson is that Manson has the decency to look like a nut case
when you first meet him." --Richard Jeni

Mother is in the kitchen making supper for her family when
her youngest daughter walks in.

Child: Mother, where do babies come from?

Mom: Well dear...a mommy and daddy fall in love and get
married. One night they go into their room...they kiss and
hug and have sex. (The daughter looks puzzled.)

That means the daddy puts his penis in the mommy's vagina.
That's how you get a baby, honey.

Child: Oh I see, but last night when I came into you and
daddy's room you had daddy's penis in your mouth. What do
you get when you do that?

Mom: Jewelry, dear.

Two Japanese businessmen are talking during their afternoon
dip in the hot baths at the Geisha house. The first business-
man says, "Hirokosan, I have unpleasant news for you. Your
wife is dishonoring you. I saw her the other night and she
was out with another man."

Hirokosan can't believe what he hears, and asks for more
information. "It is as I said, Hirokosan, and she is doing
it with a foreigner who appears to be of the Jewish faith."

Shocked, Hirokosan goes home to confront his wife. He faces
her and says, "I am told that you are dishonoring me with a
foreigner of the Jewish faith."

She replies, "That's a lie! Where did you hear such mishugunah?"
